Remember seeing this?

This prize-winning hat was seen at the 2014 Celebrate Mooroolbark festival. Mark up your diary now for 2015. We'll celebrate together on March 21. This year's theme is: My Favourite Story Book.

Looking forward to sharing the day with you!

Recent happenings in our town!

Sculptor Jonathan Leahey installs the crested pigeon - one of five new sculptures gracing Hookey Park, where the annual Carols by candlelight and Twilight Picnic recently took place.

Not too long ago - close to Remembrance Day, we witnessed the unveiling of new plaques in the War Memorial.

And moving away from Hookey Park - following an eight year process the new Station precinct was opened - witnessed by a small crowd of local community members, Shire and State government employees, and representatives of the construction company. Particular thanks go to Lisa Whitehouse from the YRC (pictured far left) for her diligent staying power throughout the planning and consultation processes followed by the construction and delivery.

Don Elgin at Annual Town Forum

Thursday 20 November saw World Champion Paralympian Don Elgin spend a day in Mooroolbark to participate in the fourth Annual Town Forum hosted by the Mooroolbark Umbrella Group.

Don's presentation was inspiring, funny and totally engaging, as he drew from his life experience - rising above the obstacles that being born with a disability might have presented.

In the morning in an intimate setting he worked with a group of 40 local secondary students. In the afternoon a large group of 230 primary school students emjoyed his presentation at the Mooroolbark Community Centre, and again in the evening, Don shared his story at the Forum, including assisting with the awarding of the 2014 Quiet Achiever medallions which were presented to long-time contributors to our community. Arline Myers of the Mooroolbark Theatre Group, Marion Stott of the Mooroolbark History Group, Peter Giddings from the Mooroolbark Lions Club and Haemish Gaines - Kids Hope Aus mentor at Manchester Primary School were honoured. Deputy Mayor Cr. Maria McCarthy opened the evening Forum and also assisted in presenting the awards.
