Minister Runs from Preaching Responsibilities

On October 13th Arnie Wierenga, minister at St. Margaret's, has chosen to run in the Melbourne Half-Marathon rather than deliver a sermon. And his congregation is in full agreement!

Arnie is raising funds for Rubaga Youth Development Association in Uganda and is looking for support from all of Mooroolbark. This organisation is an African success story. Every cent you can raise will help provide vocational training for orphaned and vulnerable youths. Full details at:

What's going on at Hookey park?

Have you noticed the works under way at Hookey Park. They represent:

STAGE 2 - May to September 2013

Stage 2 works will include upgrade to footpaths throughout the park, extensive new plantings and garden beds that pay tribute to Edna Walling, new BBQ, seats and picnic settings, refurbishment of the memorial, improved lighting, pergola installation program, meandering art wall, enhanced accessibility, and improved signage and entry artworks at gateways. Themed forests will celebrate a variety of feature trees from indigenous and native to exotic deciduous.

Council is working with local community groups to finalise the design of the memorial area, and with artists to finalise the design for entry works and pergola art.

Here's a shot of the plans:

Enjoyment in a good cause!

Looks a pretty good deal for $5 - and the proceeds will be helpful to Ugandan young people!
